About Honeybeez Pre-School
Honeybeez is a sessional preschool. This means we run sessions of two and half hours long in the morning from 9am to 11.30am and a second session from 12.45pm to 3.15pm in the afternoon five days of the week. We are based on a school site so we are open school term time only. We were established in 1997 and work to support children and their families within our local area. We have close links with Swaythling Sure Start and with Bassett Green Primary on whose site we are situated. We work closely with the all the local schools to ensure that transition from the preschool on to full time education is smooth and trouble free for each of our children.
Our Staffing Structure
Our staff believe in putting the children first, so we operate on an adult to child ratio of 1:6 and use the Key Worker System.
The Keyworker System - Each member of fully qualified staff is responsible for 6 named children within each session. This enables the child to form a relationship with one member of staff who will work with them in Key Group Time. The member of staff will be the first point of contact for the parents of that child. The Key worker is responsible for recording and planning for the progress of the child throughout their time at Honeybeez.
Assistant Practitioner. We have a maximum of two trainee staff at any time who will be studying for the National Vocational Qualification Level 2 in Early Years Childcare at local colleges.
Deputy Practitioner. Who are responsible for up to 6 children per session in the Key Worker System. They are fully trained and have obtained the National Vocational Qualification Level 2 or above in Early Years Childcare.
Lead Practioner. Our Lead Practioner is qualified to degree level as well as having a minimum of National Vocational Qualification Level 4 in Early Years Childcare. Our Lead Practioner is responsible for the day to day running of the Preschool and the delivery of a stimulating curriculum that follows the Foundation Stage Curriculum for this age group.
We also have two Deputy Lead Practioners. These members of staff deputise for the Lead Practioner in case of her absence. They are trained to a minimum of National Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Early Years Childcare. They lead the session and will be responsible for 6 children in each session within the Key Worker System.
The Session Timetable
We begin each session at Honeybeez with Self Registration, each child will have a picture of themselves to collect from the table and stick on the number line alongside their friends.
We have a period of Free Play so that the children access all areas of the setting freely choosing their own activities from activities such as painting, sticking, making, building, dressing up, home corner play, book corner or they can enjoy a quiet rest in the comfy quiet area.
